Ever since ‘The Secret’ by Rhonda Byrne was released back in 2006, the law of attraction (LOA) has become a mainstream topic with thousands of raving fans. More people are aware of the principles of visualization and manifestation now than ever before.
Yet, while many swear by the law and are constantly telling everyone who cares to listen about how the miraculous LOA changed their lives… even more people claim that it didn’t work for them.
They’ve spent weeks or even months visualizing and believing and yet nothing has manifested in their lives. In many cases, their situations have only gotten worse.
So why is it that the law works for some and fails for others?
What is the real secret here?
Below, you’ll find 5 reasons why the law of attraction may not be working for you… and how you can fix the problem.
- You’re unclear on what you truly want
Your desires MUST be burning obsessions in your heart. Merely wishing for something is not enough. To truly visualize and emotionally feel yourself achieving your goal, you must be passionate about it.
Let’s assume you’re 60 pounds overweight and you wish to become slim. You want to look great in a bikini and turn heads at the beach.
However, if you merely wish for it, your visualization exercises will be weak and short-lived. After a while, you’ll quit because it no longer excites you.
But if you obsess about it, you’ll know exactly what weight you need to see on the scale; you’ll know the color of your bikini and you’ll even know what beach you’ll be sunbathing at.
That is obsession. If others tell you that you’re too absorbed over your goal, rest assured that you’re on the right track.
Your clarity and desire for what you want will color your view of life and impact your daily actions and habits. This is imperative for manifesting what you want.
Which brings us to the next point…
- Lack of action
The Secret made the entire law of attraction process look easy. Here’s a hard truth – it isn’t easy. Far from it.
Every goal comes with an invisible price attached to it. To achieve the goal, you’ll have to pay the price.
Whether you do it gladly and willingly… or whether you grunt and cuss all the way through – one constant remains – the price must be paid.
And only you can pay it.
If we follow the earlier example about the bikini body, visualizing the end-result is only half the battle. The other half is action.
Attraction = attract + action
You’ll need to clean up your diet, hit the gym and focus on the daily habits which are in alignment with your goal.
Sitting on a mat and chanting “Oohmmmmmm!” while your picture yourself with a nice body is not enough. You must put in the sweat equity.
This applies to any goal – whether it’s to become a millionaire or own a Bugatti or have a wonderful marriage… or anything. The price must be paid.
The law of attraction works, but only if you do the work. The self-help gurus will tell you that effort is not required. They’ll tell you that faith alone is enough.
The reason they spout this self-serving nonsense is because it sells their books and courses… and makes them wealthy. Everyone wants to hear about easy riches and easy success. That’s what sells, but it’s not what works.
Always remember this: If it was so easy, everyone would be fit, rich and successful.
But that’s not the setup of the universe.
Like the old proverb goes, “A sluggard’s appetite is never filled, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied.”
Now that we’ve established that visualization and belief go with action… it’s important to know that these alone are not enough for manifestation.
You’re probably thinking, “No way. There’s more?”
Yes, there is…
- Incongruence in your habits
Back to the bikini goal again. Let’s assume that Jane truly knows what she wants and she’s eating clean and hitting the gym every other day.
She feels like she’s on track to achieving her goal and yet sees hardly any progress.
Why is this the case?
Simple. One or more of her habits are holding her back. They’re not in alignment or congruent with her heart’s desires.
Jane could be eating clean, but she’s consuming surplus calories and gaining weight instead of losing it. Or she may go to the gym daily, but her workouts lack the intensity required to stimulate change in the body.
Maybe she sleeps late after binge watching Netflix and her body doesn’t get the required rest to drop the weight.
Her habits are not conducive or harmonious with her goals. For every two steps forward she takes, she’s taking two or even three steps back.
Until all her habits and actions are in alignment with her goal, she’ll struggle to make progress. Your habits and actions must be correct and in congruence with your goal.
Which brings us to the next reason why the law of attraction is failing you…
Remember how we said that your desire must be an obsession?
That means you must visualize daily. Even 2-3 minutes a day will suffice. You don’t want to overdo it.
You’ll want to be consistent with your actions and habits. Sporadic actions and going through the process half-heartedly and intermittently will sabotage your success.
Focus on being consistent if you want to make your dreams a reality.
However, even if you’re consistent… there’s still one final secret within The Secret that many are not doing…
- They’re not working backwards
What does working backwards mean?
It’s a simple concept BUT it makes all the difference.
Most people who visualize what they want, do so from a position of someone who is looking ahead. They’re aware of where they are and look at the goal as something to be achieved in future.
This is a HUGE mistake.
You must work backwards. This basically means that you’ll act as though you’ve already achieved your goal.
For the woman who is overweight and wants a bikini body, she’ll see herself already lean and shapely. She’ll shop for the bikini; she’ll choose the beach she’s going to visit and so on.
In her mind, she envisions herself possessing the physique of a sculpted Greek deity… and don’t you tell her otherwise.
When faced with a plate of donuts, she won’t gorge on them because she’s lean and that’s not what someone with an athletic silhouette would do.
Her actions are in alignment with her goal because her self-image is who she wants to be – NOT who she currently is.
Because she’s true to her future self, her current actions and trajectory are altered so that she reaches her goal.
You MUST forget your current reality and situation because your where you are now does NOT affect or reflect your future reality.
Keep the ‘future you’ constantly in your thoughts and you’ll become that person.
Walk and talk like you’re already where you want to be. If you can do this, you’ll automatically start changing your habits, the way you think, the words you use and everything else that’s holding you back.
What you did before got you to where you are now. To go further, you’ve got to be different.
Your subconscious mind already knows what it needs to do. You just need to get out of your own way. The best way to do that will be to act like the future you… and the universe will send you all the signs and opportunities you’ll need.
This is the MOST IMPORTANT step of getting the law of attraction to work for you.
Be aware of the reasons mentioned above and eliminate them from your life. You’ll be amazed at how fast you start manifesting your goals and desires.
